2025 Saturdays on the Grass (fall XC!)

This year’s 2025 Saturday on the Grass cross-country workouts begin, as usual, the Saturday after Labor Day and run through USATF Club Cross-Country Nationals in January. They are tied to the Stumptown Cross Country race schedule, but all are welcome.

Start time will be 9:30 am.

Please note that the schedule is subject to change, especially late in the season, when weather can send us in search of better footing.

Sept. 6. Glendoveer. Meet near the practice green, at the west side of the main parking lot off of Glisan. We will run 800m hill reps on chips. This is always popular and a chance to see the course that will be used in December for nationals, though we can’t run on it.

September 13. Sellwood Park. Meet at the gate 1 1/2 blocks north of the historic church. Expect a 2K to 1.3 mile loop with pace changes and a steep hill at the finish. Great course for a solid workout.

September 20. Gabriel Park preview. Meet in the main parking lot at the lower (western) end of the park, and plan to start near the staring point of the race route. Map. NOTE: this is a change in starting point from what was originally posted here.

September 27. Gabriel Park. RACE.

October 4. Lents Park Preview. Meet near the main parking lot on the east side of the park.

October 11. Lents Park. RACE

October 18. Blue Lake Park Preview. Carpool if you can; there is a $5 parking fee, but the course is complex enough that previewing it is worth the drive/parking fee. Meet at the picnic tables near the official race start. On the park map (here) this is the “East Parking Lot” near the Shahala picnic tables. We will practice the full loop (about 2500m) and the finish (about 400m).

October 25. Blue Lake Park. RACE.

November 1. Fernhill Preview. Meet near the track.

November 8. Fernhill Park. RACE

November 15. Pier Park Preview.

November 22. Pier Park. RACE

November 27. THANKSGIVING. TRL’s annual Tryon Park Turkey Day Run. Not a race; just a group run though the park. Lots of hills for training, though. Probably 9 am. Starts at the Visitor Center.

Nov 29. Wilshire Park. This is small enough we’ll easily find each other, but start on the Skidmore side. This is an all-weather chip course, flat, about 1K around. Great for a taper workout for nationals. Workout will be 6 x 1000m at 10K effort on 45 sec recoveries, plus 4 x 25 sec hard.

December 6-7. USATF Cross Country National Championships. Glendoveer. Note that open and masters races are not on the same day.

December 13. Mary S. Young. Assemble at the “upper” parking lot (meaning the first one you encounter, driving in. The Parkrun will be staring at 9 am, but we have coexisted here in the past.

December 20. Duniway Track. Note: this is a change.

December 27. TBD. Possibly this will be at Duniway Track.

January 3. Wilshire Park, same as on November 29.

January 11. USATF Club Cross-Country Nationals. Tallahassee FL. This is on the course used for World XC, the day after that race.
